Same-sex marriage advocacy plays prominent role in club's campaign
Officials of Jesuit, Catholic Saint Louis University have restricted the “All of Us” campaign of the campus gay rights club Rainbow Alliance. According to The University News, “The campaign is an initiative that seeks to raise awareness and further equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, focusing on the role that straight allies play in the mission. Marriage equality plays a prominent role in the mission.” Rainbow Alliance president Justin Gimotea said that the university put the campaign on hold due to the wording of its “pledge.” Gimotea said, “The most problematic points were the ones that mentioned the rights to marry. [The administration] said that these points were the most problematic considering we're in a Jesuit institution… and the boundaries were not within the boundaries of Catholic moral teaching.” The Saint Louis University Dean of Student Life said, “The University is open and receptive to having an ally program on campus. The issue is, how do you do that within the organization's charters, the parameters of Catholic teaching and SLU's mission… If any student organization wants to reach outside its mission, it's hard for the University to support that."
