Devotion To The Sacred Heart Of Jesus: "A Source Of Truth And Goodness"

Pope encourages Sacred Heart devotion as June begins
Vatican, Jun. 2, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) spoke about devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at his regular midday audience on Sunday, June 1. The Holy Father observed that the Sacred Heart devotion, to which the month of June is traditionally located, highlights a symbol of June is traditionally dedicated to the Heart of Jesus,
"a symbol of the Christian faith that is especially dear to ordinary people as well as to mystics and theologians."
The image of the Sacred Heart, he explains, captures the essence of Christ's love "in a simple and authentic way." In celebrating the Sacred Heart, the Pope continued, the Church follows a sequence that "moves toward the center." Beginning with Trinity Sunday, and following with Corpus Christi, the liturgical calendar directs the attention of the faithful first to the "boundless horizon" of God's love, then to the concrete manifestation in the incarnate God, and finally to the
"invisible and ineffable mystery in the human heart of Jesus."
In contemplating the heart of Jesus, Pope Benedict said, Christians look to the center of their faith and of their lives, "a source of turth and goodness from which to draw in the various situations and exertions of daily life."
